Here you can see where GST maintenance were employed by a local property landlord to replace an old outdated fuse board for a new modern fuse board, all work had to be completed prior to the new tenants moving in.

Another 1940's fuse box but this has at some point in time had a cast metal isolation switch installed below it.
This installation was found to be in a very dangerous state & has since been totaly rewired by GST maintenance.

These are the remains of an extractor fan, installed by the property owner.
The home owner was woken early one morning by his smoke alarm sounding due to a small electrical fire in the bathroom extractor fan. Loose live connection caused a build up of heat resulting in the fire.

We came across this peice of non-compliant DIY work whilst undertaking a periodic test & inspection of an installation before the property was to be rented out.
The previous occupier has used the earth cable to carry a live voltage to the light fitting, to use a protective conductor in this way is an all to common practice by diyer's but should never be done.

This was a new kitchen & plastered wall, unfortunately a non part P registered kitchen fitter undertook the electrical work, hiding a junction box in the plaster.
Upon completion the home owner received a serious shock from the socket to the left.

Same kitchen as the previous photo, showing that mains 230 volt is present between the metal socket & the metal knobs on the hob.

These cables are old lead sheathed cables & as can be seen the terminations are not enclosed.
On further inspection the insulation on the inner cores had perished. This lighting circuit had to be rewired due to it's unsafe & dangerous condition.

Another DIY install.
Here you can see 1.5mm lighting cable comming in the top of the shot & the lower cable is telephone cable used to feed a second socket.
This circuit was rewired by GST maintenance.

This was taken while we were undertaking a periodic test & inspection of a rented property.
Both the switch & fan are mains voltage items & should not be in the shower cubicle.

This picture was taken when we were called by a builder, who had undertaken a partial rewire & added new circuits to an extension he had built for a customer.
But as he was not part P approved he could not sign off the work for the property owner.
When we arrived we were presented with the pictured mess so we decided with the property owner that we should complete a periodic test & inspection to asscertain the condition of the installation. Unfortunately had to inform the property owner that builder hadn’t re-wired the circuits, all he'd done was to change the cable ends at the sockets & fuse board.
